Design Challenge

The Washington Nationals “#Natergy” Campaign is a website to engage new and existing Nationals baseball fans. The campaign seeks to promote engagement, influence fan sentiment, and energize player enthusiasm.

The target audience of this website are children ages 5-18, current Nationals fans since 2005, and residents of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.

Solution

The campaign slogan, “Natergy” was developed to combine the Nationals’ nickname, “Nats,” and the word “energy.” To enhance the campaign’s appeal, a logo which reflects the enthusiasm for Nationals baseball and, ultimately, the impact fans have on player recruitment was created to engage the fans. The logo depicts the current team identity, an enthusiastic baseball, and the word “Natergy.” Using the logo and slogan, a website was developed to promote the fan impact on the team and raise the excitement for the prospects of the team.

Pages, such as a landing page depicting the fans’ contributions, a future player’s page showing future players, new merchandise, and a page highlighting the Nationals’ potential were developed. The Nationals’ red, white, and blue, an organized page structure, and a simple background provide a unique branding experience and accessibility for people with disabilities.

Project Outcome

By engaging new and existing fans with logo-centered and “#Natergy” messaging products promoting “deep-dives” into prospect statistics, back history, and subtle graphic imagery, the website will increase fan enthusiasm.

With market placement of logos and excited fans in Nationals Park, players will be influenced with a positive and an inspirational fan-base to perform better on the field.
